Her mother never really got it and Zoe and Gareth's need for crazy ideas and adventure has many times become a reason for massive arguments. Despite everything her parents are still together and in their middle age have reached something of a truce (sort of) where the occasional mad holiday and Gareth's hobbies keep him from going mad without driving Janine up the wall. Meanwhile, after being the sort of child to stand up to kids twice her age to tell them off for bullying, Zoe sort of found herself involved in the school's peer mentoring programme. She lived in an underprivileged area and there was a severe lack of interest in education or their lives in general among the youth. Zoe found she loved the work. This trend continued, and between days out with her friends and her own (fairy average) studies, she ended up doing volunteer work out of school hours for the middle school and later a youth club one night a week. Her reputation for semi-bullying people into getting what the clubs/programmes needed helped get her into the Peace Corps as a volunteer at only 18. She spent the allotted 27 months training and then working in youth outreach in Peru. She was back home just in time for the past Christmas, but a month living near her parents again frayed her nerves something terrible and she started looking for work well away from home in Missouri. She wasn't expecting to get the really cushy placement in sunny Florida, but she sure as hell wasn't going to turn down a chance to live and work near a beach. So, here she is.
